Overview

Led by the immortal Count Dracula, the greatest army of evil ever assembled is poised to bury mankind in a Tomb of Terror. Destroying this legion of Swamp Dragons, Slasher Skeletons and Forces of the Undead will be the supreme challenge for the mightiest of warriors. Your place in history is 100 years before Simon Belmont's birth. Dracula is young at heart, and it will take more than a stake to penetrate his evil. Luckily, you command the role of Trevor - Simon's forefather and the origin of the Belmont Warlord Chromosomes. Trevor has a power never before seen by human eyes - the power to transform into three different spirits: Grant DaNasty, the ferocious Ghost Pirate. Sypha, the Mystic Warlord. And Alucard, Dracula's forgotten son. You must perfectly time Trevor's body transformations to match up his different fighting spirits against Ultimate Evils. Trevor also has the strength and wisdom to command the Battle Axe, Invisibility Potion and Mystic Whip. But the most important weapon Trevor has is your cunning to choose the correct Paths of Fate and your bravery to lead him past 17 possible levels of never-ending doom, including the Haunted Ship of Fools, the Sunken City of Poltergeists, the Clock Tower of Untimely Death and Curse Castle. Never before have so many dangers confronted you at one time. And if by some miracle you triumph, you'll no longer be a mere mortal. You'll be a legend who'll live forever!

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES) - Cheats & Tips
• Stage select: on the name entry screen, after typing your name, hold button combinations using A/B and directions while confirming to start on later stages (for example, hold A and Down to start at stage 2). The exact combos were documented in magazines of the era such as Nintendo Power.
• Recruitable partners: you can rescue three allies depending on your route. Grant the pirate is found in stage 2 if you escape through the ship's window; Sypha the mystic is in the stage 3 swamp route after defeating the boss; Alucard the vampire is on an alternate stage 3 route. You can carry only ONE partner at a time, and Sypha is required for the final battle with Dracula.
• Alternative routes: several stages (2, 3, 5, 6 and 7) have branching paths that change levels, bosses and available allies. Explore them to see different portions of the game.
• Alucard boss fight: Alucard turns into a bat and throws fireballs. Stay close and crouch, striking him when he dips down to your level; his attack is interrupted if you hit him right as he transforms.
• Dead Man's Float boss (stage 4): be careful with jumps between platforms and whip the medusa heads as they emerge; a long-range whip weapon (dagger or sword) makes this fight much easier.
• Dracula tip: in his first form, whip his head as he reappears after the lightning attack; in his final form (with Sypha use her fire spell) attack from the edge of the screen and dodge projectiles by crouching.
• Hard mode: after completing the game once, you can carry on into a second quest with increased difficulty (enemies deal more damage).
