Cheats and secrets for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (Game Boy Color)
• Color Dungeon (DX): circle the well with the pit near the Mabe Village lawn to reveal its entrance. You need the shovel and the shiny spool of thread from Grandma Ulrira.
• Quick-save trick: let an enemy kill you and choose 'Save & Quit' on the death screen — you'll restart at the last dungeon entrance you entered, with your progress saved.
• Trading sequence: start the item chain in Mabe Village and trade all items in order to eventually obtain the Magnifying Lens, required to find the Wind Fish's Egg dungeon.
• Photographs (DX): visit the photographer at the Camera Shop in Mabe Village after certain events (e.g., meeting Marin at the beach) to unlock the 12 hidden photos.
• Luigi effect (DX): by taking the photo with Luigi's portrait and wearing the Red or Green Tunic from the Color Dungeon, Luigi's portrait can appear to change — a famous Easter egg tied to the tunics.
• Heart pieces and secrets: dig in suspicious patches of soil with the shovel around Koholint Island; several hide rupees and pieces of heart, and secret cave entrances dot the shorelines.
